Hong Kong is known among many of its visitors as a high end shopping destination packed with trendy clothes, cutting edge electronics equipment and expensive luxury items. Shopping in Hong Kong is not just limited to air conditioned malls and department stores. Perhaps some of the best bargains and the most interesting items can be found in these street markets.

Many street markets in Hong Kong either ply a certain variety of goods or goods that represent a certain ethnic group. One of the best places to buy something special for your relatives or friends back is the Stanley Market. It is a traditional open air street market that has become a major tourist attraction in Hong Kong. The market sells everything from clothes to souvenirs and is known as a bargain hunter’s paradise. The silk clothes and traditional Chinese toys and garments are of special interest here.

Many residential areas in Hong Kong are filled with the melodious song of caged birds, where do they all come from? Most probably from the bird market in Yuen Po Street, many song birds are bought and sold in this market which also a place of congregation for bird enthusiasts and song bird owners. This dark and rather derelict alleyway is usually frequented by old men who proudly show off their birds to their peers, not necessarily with intention of selling but mostly for show. Intricately crafted bird cages, bird feed and a variety of song birds of various species from all over the world can be found at this market.

The Hong Kong Flower market is the perfect place to buy a bunch of sweet smelling flowers for that special someone back home, a variety of flowers from local Chinese varieties to expensive imported flowers can be found here. Bonsai plants, rare houseplant and certain varieties of plants that bring good fortune to your family can be found here as well. The novelty of visiting a brightly colored and delightfully fragrant market is the major draw for tourists however many locals purchase flowers for weddings, funerals and traditional festivals here.

There are many street markets in Hong Kong and chances are that any hotel in Hong Kong will have one close by; a visit is worthwhile and gives you a chance to experience a distinctly different way of shopping.

If you are a women, or just love to shop you will definitely LOVE Hong Kong.Central Hong Kong’s Central district houses many shimmering skyscrapers and marbled shopping atriums and malls. Hong Kong has over 35 shopping malls and is growing daily. I would estimate that every luxury brand in the world has a footprint in the retail segment of Hong Kong at one location or another.

The contrast between the old world markets and designer boutiques provides variety and excitement to any shopping day. Scattered among the government headquarters and financial and banking houses are a wealth of opportunities for any shopper. The Landmark, The Galleria, Prince’s Building, Alexandra House and the ifc mall are the main shopping centers, with designer shops and exclusive brand names in abundance.

Hong Kong is one of the greatest shopping centers of the world. Due to its status as a free port, tourists traveling to China and Hong Kong can find the best deals anywhere in the world. Hong Kong hosts a lot of different items from all over the world.

The Landmark Atrium

The Landmark Atrium is a top shopping center in Hong Kong that caters for the upscale consumer. If you are looking for designer shoes, clothes, and bags, then Landmark Atrium is the place to go. The shopping mall is directly connected to the local transit station for easy access.

The City Plaza

This Hong Kong shopping plaza is a top class department store that features the products of Marks and Spencer’s. Aside from the usual designer shops, this shopping mall also has a wide array of toy products from Toys R Us and a heavily used skating rink. It is connected above the train station. The City Plaza is also home to the widest choices of Chinese and Foreign fast food.

The Lanes

Hong Kong shopping is not complete if one does not go through the famous shopping streets. One of them is the Lanes central. Lined up in these streets are various kinds of small shops that offer the best goods from seafood to electronic products. Hong Kong is known for budget shopping and great finds.

The Nathan Road

The Nathan Road in Kowloon is another Hong Kong shopping street that is known for its various boutiques that are popular to night shoppers. In The Nathan Road, your most valuable asset is your money and your ability to haggle. If you win, you can find the greatest deals. But if you lose, you will find yourself with overpriced pieces. In this street, the haggling is part of the shopping experience that is hard to replace.

The Stanley Market

The Stanley Market also in Kowloon is a most famous Hong Kong shopping center that is known for the excitement of going there as much as shopping there. Home to the best Chinese artworks and souvenirs, you can find lots of Mao items that you can take home. This experience is literally a drive to the jungle. If haggling is the unique experience in Nathan, then the journey is the featured experience here.
