There are many hotels throughout Hong Kong and staying in one can be quite expensive. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t find affordable hotels at all in Hong Kong. Your best option is to take a look at hotels in the Kowloon peninsula, just north of Hong Kong island.

The Kowloon peninsula is the gateway to China. But it’s also a bustling small city, so small you can walk across the narrowest point in less than a day. Kowloon is made up of several districts with names like Tsim Sha Tsui (TST), Mongkok, Jordan and Yau Ma Tei. The main avenue called Nathan road runs through all these districts so if you’re on Nathan road you’re never lost.

Now the best hotels in Kowloon are found near or on Nathan road. Hong Kong’s underground train system also runs mostly beneath Nathan road with many stations above ground. The MTR also runs through a tunnel beneath Hong Kong harbor and straight into Hong Kong island. Plus there are many great restaurant options from cheap eats to gourmet delights with top price. Whatever your budget is you’ll be able to fill your stomach with food that’s way better than the take out back home.

Several of the best hotels in Kowloon are found in the Tsim Sha Tsui district such as the Holiday Inn and the Mira Hotel. The Holiday Inn of course is a popular chain of hotels in the USA but the rooms here are small. The Mira Hotel was recently renovated and the rooms here are more spacious with a hip boutique style design. Back since the 1940′s it was one of the fanciest hotels in the neighborhood and after an extensive overhaul it still is today. Both hotels are right on Nathan road with MTR train stations within easy reach.

Just further up Nathan road is the Prudential Hotel and BP International Hotel. These two hotels are even more affordable and also offer easy access to the MTR and is a great area to explore local culinary delights. The Prudential Hotel however has bigger rooms so it’s quite popular with returning guests. The BP International’s rooms are smaller, yet very clean, comfortable and modern.

Hong Kong’s Coliseum is a popular gathering place for citizen’s to be entertained, albeit in a more sedate form than the Romans.

Having been built by Hong Kong’s Urban Council, the Coliseum is situated in Kowloon and is actually used more often as an indoor arena. Its name in Chinese is derived from the meaning of sport, but the variety of events held at this venue far exceeds the limits of physical sports. The areas popular singers often prefer to hold concerts here, since its seating capacity is in the thousands.

To be exact, the Hong Kong Coliseum has a seating capacity of about 12,500 making it the second largest indoor stadium in the country. The Coliseum’s frontage is perhaps one of its most unusual features that begs to be noticed from the outside. Its inverted pyramid structure has now become one the most popular features of Hong Kong’s skyline.

If tourists are not tempted to explore its interior through curiosity, then its sheer size is bound to impress. Like all arenas, the benefit of viewing, is further enhanced by the wide open spaces which are void of columns, providing an unobstructed view and this venue.

The Hong Kong Coliseum comprises of three main areas. Those include the Piazza, Box Office and of course the Arena. But in addition to this, the venue also offers other services such as dining and some ancillary features as well. In terms of ancillary features, the Coliseum offers a VIP Lounge and a few function rooms often used for press conferences and receptions which are conducted in conjunction with performances to be held in the arena.

Since its inception in the 80′s it has been the venue of choice for countless international conferences and events. It has also witnessed the performances of Air Supply, pop heavy weight Elton John and Latin heart throb Ricky Martin, not to mention Jackie Chan and Andy Lau also chose the Coliseum as their concert venue. Some of the venue’s most memorable performances were from the New York Philharmonic, the ‘Disney on Ice’ show and tenor Placido Domingo – now that’s entertainment!

Apart from its size and seating capacity which are all plus points, the HongKong Coliseum is also situated at the centre of many public transport access points. Being right next to the railway station, tourists could hop on and step in for a quick look around and take another one to enter the city and return to their accommodation.

Hong Kong is certainly world’s most active and dynamic cities. Situated on the eastern side of the Pearl River Delta, the Hong Kong territory is comprised of over 260 islands. It borders Guangdong province in the north and facing the South China Sea in the east, west and south. Hong Kong is also one of the most visited cities of the world. It is widely known for museums, galleries, amusement parks, Islands, temples, and much more. Some of the major attractions of Hong Kong are:

Victoria Peak offers the best views of the town and the seaport, with the stunning nighttime views. Victoria Peak is known for its eating joints and entertainment attractions.
Kowloon Peninsula is mainly famous for Tsim Sha Tsui that is the famous tourist place. It is also home to the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the Space Museum, the famous Peninsula Hotel and the History Museum. Nathan Road is the chief and busiest road in Kowloon that goes in a south-north direction from Tsim Sha Tsui to Mong Kok. It is lined with stores, eating houses and holidaymakers. The Space Museum is the repository offering you hundreds of displays ranging from telecommunications, artificial intelligence, power, computing machine, and physics.

Macau is your destination for grand baroque churches, balconied colonial mansions, open plazas and Mediterranean-style cafes, shopping malls, theme parks, towers and bridges and various gambling places. Macau’s beauties are calm, easygoing, architectural and distinctive. If you are lover of plants, Lou Lim Ioc Gardens is a beautified place where you can find a myriad of European and Chinese plants adjoining an opulently columned and curved hall.

Sun Yatsen Memorial Home, located on the southern slope of Yuexiu Hill, is memorial house that was constructed between 1929 and 1931. This outlandishly Moorish-style memorial house pays honor to the originator of the Chinese Republic ‘Sun Yatsen’.

Kun Iam Temple is temple complex that was established in the 13th century. The complex is devoted to the Goddess of Mercy. This is classic Chinese temple area, and you must see the eaves assembled with ceramic designs of fish, flowers and dragons,

Situated in the Southern District of Hong Kong Island, Ocean Park is the marine-theme fun park covering up the Wong Chuk Hang and Nam Long Shan area. It offers reasonable marine animal education and leisure and is a private organization for commercial purposes. Lantau Island is best for cruising around and watching dolphins that live in waters. You can really have great fun on the Island.

Hong Kong – Its Mandarin name literally meaning ‘fragrant harbor’ is an island located opposite the Guangdong province of the Chinese Mainland. Famous for its exciting nightlife and good hawker food, Hong Kong draws an estimated 29.5 million tourists in 2008. Here are interesting places you must visit when you are in Hong Kong.

Disney Land

Recently opened in 2005, the 310 acre HongKong DisneyLand draws 4.5 million visitors yearly. The park, like its sister parks around the world, has four themed ‘lands’ – Main Street, TomorrowLand, AdventureLand and FantasyLand. The smallest of all DisneyLands, HongKong DisneyLand was built to accommodate up to 34,000 visitors a day but has so far not met this target. For visitors sick of the queuing at the other DisneyLands, this is definitely a relief.

The park uses mostly English and Mandarin for communication with visitors but has guide maps available in Chinese (simplifed and traditional) in addition to Japanese and English.

Victoria Peak

One of the most scenic places to visit in Hongkong, this 552m tall mountain overlooks the Kowloon City and Victoria Harbour, offering breath-taking views at night. Known locally as The Peak, Victoria Peak is found on the western half of Hongkong. The top-most portion of the mountain is closed to public due to the telecommunications tower but most other parts are open to the public. Drawing some 7 million visitors to the peak, the site get crowded towards the evening where visitors enjoy spectacular views of the city lights. With 2 shopping centres built to cater to tourists, Victor Peak offers a full day of shopping in the morning and dining plus photo-taking in the evening.

Ocean Park

Ocean Park is a marine-themed amusement park opened in 1977 and draws close to 5 million visitors a year. Among the most popular attractions there are ‘The Dragon’ roller coaster and the California sea lion display.

Hong Kong Disneyland has some of the attractions that will be familiar to visitors of Disney’s other parks. Main Street looks like a piece of Americana transplanted, with the Hong Kong Disneyland Railroad for a trip around the park. There’s also Adventureland, with the exciting Jungle River Cruise and all of the animal sights and sounds. Tarzan has made his home in Adventureland, where guests can take a ride on a raft to cross to Tarzan Island where they can visit Tarzan’s Tree House. For those who love the movie The Lion King, there is a musical performance based on the story as well – The Festival of the Lion King.

In the original Disneyland, Fantasyland is well known for the symbol that people think of when speaking of Disney – Cinderella’s Castle. Hong Kong Disneyland’s version is the castle of Sleeping Beauty, where children can explore the fairy tale and their own imagination. They can also visit the grotto of another Disney princess, Snow White. Cinderella is there too, represented by a beautiful carousel ride. There’s everyone’s favorite bear at The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride. More popular Disney rides include the Mad Hatter Tea Cups and Dumbo the Flying Elephant. Children and grown-ups can watch a 3-D movie with all the favorite Disney characters at Mickey’s PhilharMagic or The Golden Mickeys at Disney’s Storybook Theater. Visitors can choose to stay inside the park at one of the two beautiful new hotels. The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel is designed to take you back in time to the grandness of the Victorian era. The European influence is obvious in the 400 luxuriously appointed rooms. Guests can enjoy spa services at the hotel as well. At Disney’s Hollywood Hotel, the 600 guest rooms are decorated in an art deco style, meant to bring back the allure of the golden age of Hollywood.

In the never ending search for interesting vacation destination tourists continue to open up new areas to tourism. However there are plenty of highly fascinating areas of the world that have always had a small degree of tourism which more and more people are now discovering to their delight. Also there are a number of vacation destination which were in decline but are now experiencing renewed interest. One of the most interesting places in the world which is seeing a marked increase in tourism are the Western Isles of Scotland.

In the very early days of tourism people went to great lengths to travel to destinations which had very different reasons for their appeal. However, in general, it could be said that these early destinations became popular for such reasons as their outstanding beauty, educational reasons, being a great place for social networking or for just being a great place to enjoy yourself. Such reasons made sense during the times of the Grand Tour of Europe.

Hong Kong is a city of contrasts – ancient traditions adjoin here with the ultra modern city look. This former British colony with the mainly Chinese population pretends to be the “meeting point” of the East and West. During many centuries Hong Kong was a part of Chinese Empire but in 1841 yielded to the British power, China handed Hong Kong over. In 1898 this act was legalized as 99 years rent treaty. The United Kingdom discharged its obligations and in 1997 Hong Kong was handed back to China. It received a status of Special Administrative Region (SAR), but Hong Kong has lost a part of its economic power since China opened its doors to the international business. Hong Kong is no more the only gates to trade with China. Hong Kong has a rich cultural heritage, the most precious object of which are carefully kept in Hong Kong museums.

Hong Kong Museum of Arts is a part of Hong Kong Cultural Centre. It exhibits paintings, drawings, lithographs and sketches of the old Hong Kong. In the Centre you can also attend lectures devoted to Hong Kong history, its culture.
